Plans for bodies of New Zealand whales

By February 13, 2017No Comments

NZ stranding Project Jonah 2017The New Zealand Department of Conservation has reconsidered its plans for disposal of the bodies of the pilot whales who died during the recent strandings on Farewell Spit.

The whales will now be moved with a digger further up Farewell Spit, to the area of the nature reserve not open to the public.  It has been decided it is more suitable to remove the whales from the public access route to an area where they will remain undisturbed until they can be buried.
