Ship collisions pose a significant threat to whales and dolphins worldwide and can occur in the world’s oceans where ships and cetaceans co-occur.

Types of vessels documented in strikes include cargo ships, whale-watching boats, ferries, military vessels and all manner of private watercraft used for both commercial and recreational purposes.
