China Cetacean Alliance (CCA) recently published the second edition of their report “OCEAN THEME PARKS: A Look Inside China’s Growing Captive Cetacean Industry”.
The report is the culmination of hard investigative work and research into the multi-billion dollar cetacean captivity industry in China by its alliance members. This updated report documents the changes since the first report (2015) in the number of facilities and the number of dolphins and whales exhibited, and analyses significant events within the industry that have taken place over the past four years.
At the time of publication there are 107 facilities in total – 27 of these under construction and range from large-scale developments like Chimelong’s Ocean Kingdom, to small facilities. A large number of cetaceans held in China have been wild caught and exported from Russia and Japan.
