Dolphin dies at Primorsky Aquarium

Primorsky Aquarium, captivity, end captivity, dolphin, marine connection, dolphin death

We were recently alerted to the news that a bottlenose dolphin held at Primorsky Aquarium, Russia died in late September of this year. A post-mortem was conducted, however the cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

Sam was one of five bottlenose dolphins that performed in shows daily for the paying public, he is however not the first dolphin to die at Primorsky Aquarium since its opening in 2016. There have been other deaths including two dolphins dying within weeks of the aquarium opening. There have also been the deaths of walruses, sharks, and beluga whales but despite official investigations over the years, little has been done for the welfare of the animals. In Summer 2022, the Vladivostok interdistrict environmental prosecutor conducted an inspection of the aquarium and found numerous violations, including conditions under which belugas and dolphins are kept with building materials and waste stored within metres of their tanks.

Thousands of dolphins are in captivity around the world, all suffering in the name of entertainment – it’s very cruel, outdated, and must end.
