The Vancouver Park Board has released its report outlining draft amendments to bylaws governing importation and display of live cetaceans at the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park, Canada.
The proposed amendments would allow current cetaceans Chester,(false killer whale) Helen (Pacific white-sided dolphin) and Daisy (harbour porpoise) to stay but future dolphins, whales, or porpoises can no longer be brought into the aquarium, put on display, or used for a performance. Two belugas living at the aquarium died in November 2016.
If the bylaw amendments are enacted by the elected Park Board on May 15, they will become effective immediately.
