Honouring Danny – Dorset’s friendly dolphin

Danny, dolphin, Dorset, solitary, cetacean, memorial, Casterbridge HardyMarine Connection is supporting a memorial project which has been launched for Danny, the much-loved solitary/social dolphin that frequented the waters around the Dorset coast (UK),  who sadly died last month due to a vessel strike.

Such is the depth of feeling for the loss of Danny, it was felt to recognise him in some way and honour his memory was appropriate. A fund has now been established, and depending on the amount raised, the memorial could be in the form of a statue/sculpture or plaque.  Whichever is chosen, the memorial will carry an important educational message, focusing on raising awareness on how best to protect social/solitary dolphins in the hope that others that may appear around our shores in the future, are not placed under threat and do not meet the same fate as Danny.

Marine Connection has been touched by the reaction to the appeal, each and every donation given to honour Danny’s memory is valued and we would like to thank everyone who has, so far, donated to the memorial fund.  A special thanks to Weymouth based firm Casterbridge Hardy for their generous donation of £250 – this is just one example of how much impact this dolphin had on the people in Dorset, and much further afield.
