Qantas has joined the growing number of airlines/tour operators who pledge not to partner with facilities which hold captive dolphins or whales.
A spokesperson for Qantas said, “We don’t promote these types of venues. As Australia’s largest airline we know we have a responsibility to ensure organisations we partner with meet our own expectations and that of the community.”
New South Wales politician Emma Hurst has added her support to seeing an end to the keeping of dolphins and whales in captivity “I would like to see some legislation that’s similar to what happened in Canada that would ensure that cetaceans aren’t held in captivity for the purposes of entertainment” she has said recently.
Having been involved in helping to close the last dolphin and whale facilities in the UK, Marine Connection very much welcomes this latest, very encouraging news from Qantas, who by their decision, is helping take a step towards a future where dolphins and whales are no longer confined to tanks for entertainment.
