Marine Connection has long campaigned and raised awareness about the concerning conditions at Mediterraneo Marine Park, particularly following the tragic deaths of three female dolphins due to lead poisoning.
More recently, we jointly launched the Waves not Walls initiative — a collaborative effort between NGOs and individuals — to further highlight the appalling conditions the animals endure at the facility.
We are pleased to share a significant development: Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Rights, Alicia Bugeja Said, has ordered an independent investigation into the situation at Mediterraneo. This includes a full assessment of both the facility and the welfare of the dolphins currently held there. Following the investigation, a comprehensive report will be released, including recommendations for action. While we remain cautious, we are encouraged that our concerns — and those of many others — are finally being taken seriously.
Importantly, we also want to highlight that all animals at the park deserve better. Many continue to live in inadequate enclosures.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support the campaign for better welfare for these dolphins. Your voices, actions, and compassion are making a real difference.
