This is your chance to be a hero for dolphins and whales from your living room or garden! Sunday 26 April 2020 should be the date of the London Marathon, the world’s biggest one-day annual fundraising event but due to COVID-19 pandemic this, along with many other charity events, has been cancelled.
The charity sector is facing a serious loss of income as a result of the pandemic and the organisers of the London Marathon have come together to create a new campaign to help fund the work of UK charities. Marine Connection is asking its supporters/followers across the UK to get active, have fun and raise money to continue our crucial work by donating £26 (or whatever you can afford) and taking part in the 2.6 Challenge. No need to be a marathon runner to take part – this is a challenge for all ages and abilities. All you have to do is come up with an activity idea around the numbers 2.6 or 26 for example; you can run or walk 2.6 miles, 2.6km or for 26 minutes in your home or garden, go up and down stairs 26 times, juggle for 2.6 minutes, do a 26-minute exercise class or get 26 people on a video call and do a 26-minute workout, skip 26 times with 26 seconds recovery or even dance for 2.6 hours, whether taking a challenge on your own or with friends and family online – you can have fun and help raise vital funds – all while getting your daily exercise!
Your support will make a huge difference, helping ensure a safer world for dolphins, whales and porpoises. There are no rules, the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing and remember to stay local.
Our charity is registered on Virgin Money Giving and taking part couldn’t be easier. Just choose the challenge you would like to take, then set up your own fundraising page for friends and family to support your effort – it’s so quick and easy to take part.
Good luck and thank you!
