Marineland (Canada) has been charged for allegedly using dolphins and whales for entertainment purposes, in breach of anti-captivity legislation passed in 2019 making it an offence for use of the marine mammals to perform.
In October, Niagara regional police began their investigation over the park’s use of cetaceans in shows during the month of August. Marineland denies the allegations stating that dolphins performing routines in front of a crowd is ‘educational’, however video footage captured shows dolphins and whales performing tricks on command to music during shows in front of the live audience.
Representatives for Marineland are set to appear in court on 14 February 2022.
