New dolphinarium under construction in China

A new facility to display dolphins, sea lions and seals is currently under construction in Quanzhou, a prefecture-level port city on the north bank of the Jin River, China.  Accommodating up to 1,6000 visitors, the project is costing in the region of £20m and is due to open May 2021.

Ukrainian based company NEMO is behind the project and already have a network of dolphinariums in various countries, displaying wild-caught dolphins and also beluga whales.

Over the 16 year period from 2002 to 2019, Nemo built in excess of  30 dolphinariums in Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Thailand, however this is the company’s first investment in, and involvement with, the captivity industry in China.
