UN Ocean Conference 2025, open letter, end fossil fuels, ocean care, marineconnection

Just days before the UN Ocean Conference, a global coalition of more than 200 marine conservation and environmental organisations, climate action coalitions and environmental justice groups from around the world, including Marine Connection, have published an open letter addressed to governments, demanding to:

🛑 Stop offshore oil and gas exploration and exploitation.
🌊Β Commit to ambitious, effective and strong ocean protection measures.

Offshore fossil fuel exploration is fundamentally incompatible with efforts to address the climate crisis, reduce pollution, and halt marine biodiversity loss.

The upcoming UN Ocean Conference must be a turning point. Governments must act – and take up such a commitment into the declaration to stand the chance of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 13 & 14.
