Gray whale watching season has officially arrived around Puget Sound – the coastal area of the Pacific Northwest in the U.S. state of Washington.
Referred to as “Sounders”, approximately 12 gray whales visit these waters for about three months during spring with many having made regular visits to the Greater Puget Sound for over 20 years.
Patch – or #49 – was identified in 1991, and is easily identifiable by the large white patch on his right side, as well as white patches on the underside of his flukes.
