Speaking up for Honey – but who is listening?

By October 15, 2018No Comments

Honey (c) Animal Rights Centre JapanFurther to our recent letter (supported by 40 international organisations), to the owners and various authorities regarding the situation surrounding the dolphin known as Honey at Inubosaki Marine Park Aquarium in Japan, we have now received a response from the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), with whom we also raised our concerns.

Although Inubosaki Marine Park Aquarium were not members of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA), which WAZA oversees, Marine Connection believed they should be doing something to help the dolphin’s situation.  WAZA advised us they are liaising with JAZA, and have alerted their members in the hope that another facility can be found to assist. WAZA has also been in contact with the owners of the park and also the Choshi Prefecture, however to date they, like Marine Connection, has received no response.

Marine Connection continues to work with colleagues both in Japan and worldwide to address this with the authorities as a matter of extreme urgency. Whilst some of the staff previously employed by the park are taking it upon themselves to feed and care for the animals, they are doing this without adequate support or funds.

Her situation is urgent – if nothing is done soon Honey may die.  Please continue to support our ongoing campaign by emailing the Mayor of Choshi City and Governor of Chiba Prefecture, asking them to intervene as a matter of urgency:

Mr Koshikawa Shinichi, Mayor of Choshi City
hisho@city.choshi.lg.jp

Mr Morita Kensaku, Governor of Chiba Prefecture
teian@mz.pref.chiba.lg.jp

Our sincere gratitude to everyone who has so far contacted the authorities on Honey’s behalf, please keep up your communication requesting that something is done now before it’s too late!

Thank you.
