The plight of the Southern Resident Killer Whale community and their dwindling food source has been long reported, and this situation is escalating.
There are many in the local community around Puget Sound and the Pacific North West, some of who are featured in this documentary, doing their utmost to ensure the killer whales survival and highlight the fact they are literally dying of starvation. During Superpod 2018, Marine Connection director Margaux Dodds had the pleasure of briefly meeting a local family whose son, a young student called Blake, was committed to helping highlight the issue to a wider audience.
Blake Budwell and Luke Erickson have now produced this excellent short documentary focusing on the challenges facing this wild population of whales in today’s world. When asked by us why he felt it so important and why he was moved to document this, Blake simply replied; “I decided to create ‘Fading Sound’ because the Southern Resident Killer Whales need our help. Only a portion of the general public knows about the issue. My goal is to reach out to the whole world with this documentary and to not let the cry of the Southern Resident Killer Whales fade any further. If the whales die, are we next?”
