Marine Connection continues to liaise with Daniel Rolke our colleague at Djurrattsallians in Sweden who now advises that one of the two Parc Astérix dolphins which arrived at Kolmården Wildlife Park on January 23, 2021 is destined to be relocated to Nurenberg Zoo in Germany.
The Swedish facility will temporarily hold the dolphin until Nurenberg is ready to accept the animal. We are also advised that one of the dolphins at Kolmården named David, was shipped out on the very same cargo craft that brought the male dolphins from France and has been sent to Selwo Marina in Spain where he was held previously.
Marine Connection’s campaigns director, Margaux Dodds comments “It is very concerning that animals are being moved around in the current pandemic. Cecil, in particular, has been moved around so many times. His journey from SeaWorld to Parc Astérix in France, then to Harderwijk dolphinarium in the Netherlands, from there to Planete Sauvage in France, then again to Park Astérix and now to Kolmården Zoo. The permit for the move to Sweden states he is moved for breeding purposes. This and many other dolphins used within the public display industry are being treated simply as commodities rather than the living, breathing, intelligent, sentient mammals that they are, and this has to end.”
We will continue to work with our colleagues in Sweden ongoing and report further news when available.
