As the future of the last two captive orcas in France remains under discussion, although no final decisions have been made at this stage, our colleagues at One Voice are sounding the alarm with deep concern.
Marineland in France is reportedly considering sending Wikie and her son Keijo across the ocean to SeaWorld Orlando, a facility that already confines four orcas. After decades of captivity, and as France turns the page on cetacean shows, the thought that these two whales could spend the rest of their lives in another concrete tank is heartbreaking. Wikie and Keijo deserve peace, stability, and dignity, not another chapter of confinement hidden behind promises of “care.”
