Finnish Customs has completed a preliminary investigation of the suspected illegal import of around 36,000 kilogrammes of whale meat from Norway to Finland in 2022. The meat was imported in the form of sausages, which contained a mixture of minke whale meat and poultry. A private operator ordered the shipment in 2022 and was being used to feed many sled dogs – the majority bred and exploited for tourism purposes. The export of minke whale products from Norway, and their export to the EU, is prohibited and those responsible will hopefully be charged.

Whaling – a bloody business
