Dolphin Marine Conservation Park, Coffs Harbour, Australia, New South Wales, captivity, Marine ConnectionA newly released report into three captive dolphins at Dolphin Marine Conservation Park in Coffs Harbour New South Wales, Australia, has recommended the state look into the feasibility of retiring the marine mammals to a sea sanctuary, living out the remainder of their years in a more natural environment and no longer performing.

The report released December 14, 2020, by the NSW Upper House Committee made four recommendations which include that the government support key groups to look into relocating the dolphins to a sanctuary and end breeding.

The report ‘The use of exotic animals in circuses and exhibition of cetaceans in New South Wales’ and its recommendations are now with the government for consideration, and they are required to respond within six months.

Marine Connection, which sent its submission in November 2019 to the Board, welcomes these latest steps by the Upper House Committee, and we urge the State Government to follow the recommendations as set out, in order that these dolphins are given the chance of a brighter future.
