Captive_dolphin_SSWaterland, Mundo Marino the company which currently operates a marine park holding dolphins and sealions in Isla Margarita, Venezuela recently applied to build a dolphinarium in Chichipe, Salinas in the province of Santa Elena, Ecuador.

Marine Connection supported a letter petitioning the President of Ecuador, the National Assembly and the Minister of Tourism requesting that this permit application be refused and we are delighted to have received notification from colleagues in Ecuador, that due to concerns raised and international opposition to these plans, the permit has been denied.

Marine Connection will continue to support the ongoing campaign to create legislation in Ecuador banning future imports of dolphins or whales into the country. The company’s Venezuelan facility currently holds bottlenose dolphins which are used to perform in shows, swim with dolphin and therapy programmes.
