First Annual World Dolphin Day

World Dolphin Day, Faroe Islands, Japan, dolphin kills, whale kills, Marine Connection

Marine Connection is a member of the Stop The Grind coalition and we are fully supporting the creation of World Dolphin Day, to mark the one-year anniversary of the biggest single slaughter of cetaceans in recorded history – 1,428 dolphins killed by Faroe Islanders. Today also serves as a reminder that dolphins around the world need more protection.

“Marine Connection supports World Dolphin Day, founded to help raise awareness of the suffering conflicted on these intelligent marine mammals by mankind. Whether killed in the name of tradition, as in the Faroe Islands and Japan, or confined, bred and captured for public display, direct kills as a direct food source or via fishing practices, pollution of our oceans, and global warming, all of these impact on the lives and survival of dolphins and other small cetaceans, causing needless and unnecessary suffering.” – Margaux Dodds, Co-Founder & Director, Marine Connection

Stop The Grind is a global coalition of organisations and individuals working together toward a simple mission: To end the inhumane and unnecessary killing of dolphins and whales in the Faroe Islands.
