Amazing as more Scottish dolphins sighted in Denmark

Moray Firth dolphins, Denmark, Yoda, Delle, Mischief, ChewbackaPhotographer Lars Mikkelsen got a big surprise recently when out taking images of seals in Thyborøn canal, Denmark.  Lars and his wife, Mai-Britt sighted a pod of dolphins chasing herring in the area and spent some time photographing the majestic marine mammals.

On further investigation, it was revealed the dolphins were from the Moray Firth population (Scotland), although their identification has to be confirmed officially by Dr Barbara Cheney at Aberdeen University who manages the long-term bottlenose dolphin photo-identification project. One of the dolphins documented within the pod is Mischief who has a distinguishable nick in his dorsal fin, another dolphin, a female named Chewbacca, is also thought to have been present.  She is the mother of Yoda/Delle (Yoda is his known name to Scottish researchers but before being identified in Denmark he was named Delle), who is currently residing in the Svendborg area of Denmark and has done so for the past year, far away from the waters of the Firth where they would all usually frequent.

The question has to be – will the dolphins travel towards Svendborg, over 400kms away and will Chewbacca meet again with her son, Yoda??

Updates to follow.

Background history on Yoda/Delle’s travel to Denmark can be found here
