Between August and September 2021, three dolphins mysteriously disappeared from public view at Mediterraneo Marine Park in Malta.  At the time, the facility was advising visiting customers that the animals had been moved to Spain however, after further inquiries with authorities in both Spain and Malta, Marine Connection discovered the dolphins had all died at the park during this period.

Further investigation is now vital to learn why and how these dolphins died, and the results made public. Marine Connection will continue to work alongside local campaigners including ALM and the Maltese authorities and Commissioner for Animal Welfare, Alison Bezzina, who has commenced an official inquiry as to why proper procedures were not followed prior to the dolphins’ bodies being disposed of, and why the park was not forthcoming with this information.

All of the dolphins that died were female – two wild-caught from Cuban waters and in their 20s, the youngest was seven years of age and born in captivity at the facility.
