Marine Connection forms part of a coalition of organisations working together in relation to the transfer of five beluga whales from Marineland, Canada to Mystic Aquarium, USA in May of this year. We have been deeply concerned by this, and since the move to Mystic one beluga named Havok, has died with another, known as Jetta, currently ill.

A joint letter has been sent by our colleagues at Earth Island Institute on behalf of several of the coalition members including Marine Connection, to NMFS and APHIS, urging them not to issue any new import permits to Mystic for the importation of beluga whales, also requesting that a thorough investigation into this concerning situation be conducted and reviewed as a matter of urgency.
