Marine parks along China’s silk road

Stock photoHaichang Ocean Park Holdings who engage in the development, construction and operation of marine parks plan to build facilities along China’s new silk road trade initiative – the Belt and Road initiative.

The company is already in discussion with several mainland state-owned infrastructure builders to develop 3-4 marine park attractions in countries such as Bangladesh and Madagascar. The Belt and Road initiative was introduced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 to improve China’s trade ties by connecting overland corridors and sea routes. Wang Xuguang, chief executive of Haichang recently commented that markets like Japan, Europe and America are not their targets but India, central Asia and Africa are.

Haichang operates several marine parks in China which display dolphins and beluga whales and their  Shanghai Ocean World, due to open this year are preparing live orca shows for the first time in the country – at least 13 Russian orcas were imported to China between 2013 and 2016.
