Moray Firth dolphins do love to travel

By July 23, 2020No Comments

Incredible and exciting news!   A female bottlenose dolphin who has made the Isle of Man her home since last summer has been identified as Moonlight, one of the resident population of Moray Firth dolphins (Scotland).

Colleagues at Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch have been monitoring the adult dolphin but also her calf born last autumn in Manx waters. Over the years, many of the Moray Firth dolphins have been spotted far from home. The dolphin known as Spirtle was sighted with other members of her group in North Kerry, Ireland in late 2019 and some have even travelled all the way to the Netherlands. More recently some of the Moray Firth dolphins were sighted along the coast of Yorkshire (England).

Will Moonlight and her calf return home?  Only time will tell.
