Fungie, dolphin, Dingle, Ireland, Fungie's Kingdom, County Kerry, RTE, solitary dolphin, Lone Rangers, bottlenose dolphin, cetaceansIt’s now two months since the solitary male bottlenose dolphin known as Fungie, disappeared from the waters of Dingle in County Kerry, Ireland after making the bay his home for over 37 years.

A new documentary ‘Fungie’s Kingdom’ is set to air on *RTÉ this Christmas, and explores the relationship between the town and its friendly dolphin who arrived in Dingle in 1983 and stayed until this year. His disappearance is felt by many and he continues to be sorely missed in the area.

Fungie was known globally, and really was the granddaddy of all solitary dolphins. In September 2019, he was recognised as the longest-living solitary dolphin in the world, which resulted in him being the recipient of a Guinness World Record – a truly majestic and extremely unique bottlenose dolphin.
