Northern resident killer whale numbers double

By May 26, 2018No Comments

Orcas (c) OrcalabThe latest numbers for the northern resident killer whales (NRKW) now stands at 309, the population has more than doubled since the 1970s when they totalled 120 whales.

These latest figures include 5 confirmed whale deaths and 10 calves born. Three percent birth-rate in the 2017 study shows a healthy rate and it’s encouraging to see the numbers rebounding.
