Naya, Russia, calf death, captivity, marine connection

Born on December 29, 2023, less than a month later, the youngster was dead – the cause of death is reported to be decompensation due to a congenital heart defect that could not be diagnosed.

Mother Naya was wild-caught from Russian waters 10 years ago, taken from her family pod and now left alone to grieve over the death of her calf. Captivity is cruel to the extreme, unnecessary and benefits only those who stand to gain financially from keeping these magnificent marine mammals in captivity for public display.

It is time to look towards securing a more humane world for non-human species, end the breeding of all cetaceans in captivity and phase out the keeping of these marine mammals in confinement, to stop this type of suffering.
