Marine Connection is thrilled to announce we have partnered with 2022 Golden Globe Race (GGR22) solo sailor Pat Lawless to raise awareness of the threats to our oceans and the impact this is having on dolphins and whales.

Pat is taking part in the GGR 22 race and in preparation for this, will set sail next month from the south-west coast of Ireland up towards the east coast of Iceland, further north to Jan Mayen, before returning back down Iceland’s west coast. Weather conditions permitting, Pat may also travel over to the rugged west coast of Greenland. Staying in regular contact with Pat throughout his voyage will enable Marine Connection to update regularly on any dolphin or whale sightings he is fortunate to have, and record any conservation issues he encounters whilst sailing these waters – such as plastic pollution or ghost nets (lost fishing gear).

Margaux Dodds, co-founder of the charity comments “Having spoken with Pat I know that he has seen first-hand the devastating impact that plastics coming up from the bottom of the deep sea bed has, and he wants to prevent this from happening.  He is very concerned with industrial overfishing by super-size trawlers that dump a large percentage of their catch which in return is having a damming effect on our oceans, which is why he has joined with Marine Connection to help protect dolphins, whales and their ocean home – to make our oceans healthy again.”   In Pat’s own words “The Human race will need the oceans to be kept well, as the population grows more and more over the coming years.  It gives life to the planet.”

Look out for further updates en-route from Pat in the coming weeks.
