Solitary beluga whale likely from Arctic Ocean

Beluga whale, Puget Sound, solitary cetaceans

As an organisation that monitors/documents solitary dolphins and whales globally, we find that usually when these marine mammals appear, it is not known where they have come from or what population they may belong to.  However, the latest update regarding the solitary beluga whale seen in Puget Sound in early October is of interest as it is likely from a large population in the Beaufort Sea

This whale appears to have travelled thousands of miles south from the waters around Alaska, through the Bering Sea to Puget Sound, and was last sighted on 20 October near Tacoma, Washington State.
