Marine Connection very much welcomed the news earlier this month on the passing of a ban on the keeping of cetaceans in captivity by the Capital Region of Brussels.

We are currently supporting a proposal put forward by the Flemish Minister of Animal Welfare, Ben Weyts, to ban the keeping of cetaceans in captivity in the Flanders Region, currently the only region in Belgium that has a facility holding captive dolphins for public display at Boudewijn Sea Park.  It is our sincere hope that the decision by the Capital Region will persuade those in the Animal Welfare Council who are currently considering the Minister’s proposals to follow suit.
