Marine Connection recently joined scientists, conservationists, and several organisations specialising in cetacean welfare in urging Jet2holidays (a British package holiday provider and tour operator) to stop selling tickets to facilities that keep dolphins and whales in confinement.

While customers of Jet2holidays are enjoying their package breaks in the many destinations the company offers, dozens of dolphins and orcas are suffering in silence nearby. One facility the company promotes is Marineland in France whose male orca Moana, recently died at only twelve years old.  Another is Loro Parque on Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands. Jet2holidays state that the zoo is an absolute must for animal lovers, we disagree.  Wildborn orca Morgan, who is currently held there in ‘Orca Ocean’ lost her first calf, Ula just a few weeks before her 3rd birthday. In 2021, three female bottlenose dolphins died of lead poisoning at Mediterraneo Marine Park in Malta, another facility to which Jet2holidays continues selling tickets.

Jet2holidays strapline is ‘holidays you can trust’ – but we ask, can they be trusted to stop profiting from the misery of captive dolphins and whales by ending their support and promotion of marine parks to their customers?
