Further to the recent announcement by Thomas Cook that from next Summer they will cease selling tickets to facilities which display orca, the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) has released a statement urging Thomas Cook to review their decision.
WAZA highlights efforts made by Loro Parque and SeaWorld to protect marine species globally, however, this announcement relates to captive animals held in these marine parks and not to any work undertaken to rescue efforts or conservation in the wild – WAZA should not confuse the two. It must be noted however, that both Loro Parque and SeaWorld are members of WAZA, therefore it is no surprise that the Association would speak up in defence of their members over this decision.
