23 June 2010 – the day Morgan was taken from the wild

The female orca now known as Morgan was ‘rescued’ in the Wadden Sea off the north-western coast of the Netherlands, in June 2010 after being discovered alone, underweight and malnourished.

The young orca’s capture was authorised on the provision that she would not be put on public display and that once recovered, would be released back into the wild, however, although she was held at Dolfinarium Harderwijk in the Netherlands for over a year, no attempt was made to rehabilitate her.

In 2011 Morgan was moved to Loro Parque in Tenerife, the Canary Islands where, in direct conflict with the terms of the capture permit, Morgan was not only put on display and used in shows to entertain visitors to the park but also became pregnant and gave birth to a female calf which they named Ula, on 22 September 2018.

The campaign to obtain justice for Morgan continues.
