Atlantis Sanya in China to undergo welfare audit – Thomas Cook confirms

captive_dolphin-3416500_960_720Atlantis Sanya, the facility which opened recently on Hainan Island, keeps both beluga whales and dolphins for display/entertainment purposes, the whales were transferred from Russia and the dolphins sourced from Taiji, Japan.

Thomas Cook is the first major holiday company to announce they are to stop selling excursions to their customers which keep orcas in captivity.  Marine Connection continues to liaise with the company on this issue and welcomes their decision to conduct ongoing audits and review their animal welfare policy with regards to all facilities holding captive cetaceans.

In relation to the ongoing audits, we have highlighted the source of the animals at Atlantis Sanya in particular to them, and now await confirmation from Thomas Cook as to when the audit is expected to take place.
