Deputy Prime of Russia Minister Alexei Gordeyev recently held a meeting to determine the future of the killer whales and beluga whales being held in Srednyaya Bay. There are reports that an action plan will be put in place to rehabilitate and release the whales, however, this would entail a possible move to Russky Island which is located approximately 220kms from where the whales are now held, taking them even further away from their original capture location.

Depending on how the whales will be moved, it will undoubtedly expose them to further stress however the authorities have stated that the only other option is to move the whales to marine parks.  Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said the issue is now in the hands of the Presidential Control Directorate.
