Colleagues at the Cyprus Wildlife Research Institute recently announced the discovery of a juvenile Minke whale. Found in Karpaz, it’s the first ever record of a minke whale stranding in Cyprus – estimated to be approx 3 metres long, the youngster was found in a state of decomposition, making it difficult to determine the exact cause of death.
Earlier in the year 13 Cuvier’s beaked whales were found stranded in various locations in the northern areas of the island.
