Solitary dolphin Georges continues to roam

By January 22, 2021April 2nd, 2021No Comments

Georges, dolphin, solitary dolphin, lone rangers, Twenty years after first being sighted in County Kerry, Ireland, the male solitary dolphin known as Georges appears to continue enjoying his wild travels.

Although over the years he has been given other names, including Dony/Randy, depending on the area he appeared in, Georges is the name he has been known by in the UK.  He appears to be thriving and his playful and inquisitive behaviour doesn’t seem to have altered much over the years, as shown by this latest image of him taken in north-western France.

Marine Connection has been monitoring the phenomenon of solitary cetaceans for over 20 years and first documented Georges living in Ireland, but this lone ranger has also been sighted around the south of England, Channel Islands, Belgium, France and Holland.  Since 2001, Georges has re-visited the Dorset area twice – will he visit a third time we wonder!
