Just north of Seattle, Washington on August 8 1970, several young southern resident killer whales were captured in the shallow waters of Penn Cove, Whidbey Island – among the calves captured is lone survivor female Lolita which to date between performing tricks for paying tourists, continues to languish in her tank at Miami Seaquarium.

Over a period of eight years, (from 1965 to 1973 )dozens of individuals from this whale population were simply round-up and delivered to marine parks for display and entertainment from which their numbers have never recovered. Many killer whales died during the captures and on that fateful day in 1970, Lolita’s life changed forever.

Our Penn Cove design was created in memory of those whose lives changed forever on August 8 1970, when they were cruelly taken from their family in the wild.  By purchasing one of our Penn Cove tees, hoodies or tote bags you are helping to ensure they will never be forgotten.
